Qualcomm QC 3.0 technical details锛欳urrent Voltage Intelligent Adjustment

As a fast charging technology of the third generation of products,the efficiency of Quick Charge 3.0 has increased 38% than the last generation, Charging speed increases by 27%,battery over heat reduces by 45%, which is helpful to extend battery life. The first charger which supports QC 3.0 standard has come out. It adopts the best Voltage intelligent negotiation INOV銆(Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) algorithm, within 35 minutes, one typical cell phone can be charged from Zero battery charging to 80%.

QC 3.0 Charger Parameter

QC 3.0 Charger can be compatible with wide grid, input voltage supports 100-240V, there are multiple AC plugs for choice, able to travel around the world. There are three specifications on output aspect, respectively are 3.6-6.5V/3A,6.5-9V/2A,9-12V/1.5A. You can see that after adopting the best voltage Intelligent
Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV) technology ,  dynamic 200mV increments is for the first gear, and it will improve the charging speed, at the same time, effectively reduce the energy heat loss.
Comparing with QC 2.0 fixed voltage, which formerly adjusts 5V directly to 9V, relatively stiff during the process, while QC 3.0, using 200mV as a progressive unit, the voltage is not so high when charging at the beginning, and it will gradually improve. This kind of intelligent shift up method can better optimize charging method. If the Voltage is increased very high at the beginning, there will be a power loss in the middle, it will later emit in the form of heating.

Intelligent dispatching, which adjusts the voltage and current to the most    suitable device charging status, can reach to the expectant charging current, minimize electric energy loss and improve charging efficiency. New  standard has minimized the voltage regulating range to 0.2V, lowest 3.6V, the highest can be 20V. This charger adopts American Power Integration project, this is  also the platform which is the first batch acquires Qualcomm QC 3.0銆Authentication锛嶢t the present stage, the chips   which support QC 3.0 are snapdragon 820, snapdragon 620, snapdragon 618, snapdragon 617 and snapdragon 430, it is estimated that there will be more chip  factories to support QC 3.0.


Downward compatibility 2.0 and Independence
Although, Quick Charge has been put forward for a period of time, until this year can we see more devices to support. For one hand, after putting forward this technology,  chip manufacturers, mobile phone terminal manufacturers, charger accessory factories needs time to set up such a ecological system, QC 2.0 can really start large-scale commercial times. There are more cell phone terminals appearing which support QC 2.0 from the beginning of this year, there are more and more related products. After QC 3.0 push-off, someone may doubt if 2.0 is not suitable to use? The answer may be negative.
QC 3.0 is the upgrade of 2.0, it is one of the improvement of technology level. In addition, it processes the ability of downward compatibility and is compatible with 2.0, also it can be compatible with other traditional charging device such as USB, or previous iPad, or iPhone quick charging.

Meanwhile, Quick Charge is an open standard, besides snapdragon processor, other processors can also use this technology, such as Zenfone 2 of Asus, carrying Intel processors, but it also integrates our Quick Charge function.

Advantages of independent chips
Qualcomm integrates PMIC Power Management Circuits with Qualcomm among different level chips, if QC 3.0 needs to be upgraded, you only need to read in PMIC, so no redundant parts  are required. For independent charging IC, Qualcomm also offers QC2.0 and 3.0.  Independent charging IC can apply with different types of CS(chip set), even though this chip set don鈥檛 have Power Management Circuits, it can also carry on the set of solutions offered by Qualcomm, which will be more flexible.

Charging Security Active Defense
For QC Quick Charge technology, Qualcomm has its own set of security measurements. One of the technology name is APSD (Automatic Power Source Detection), chip detects the power source automatically, recognizes the direction of the power input, such as PC, outlet, USB etc and conducts IP mark for each power source so that it can identify rapidly.
The last technology is AICL (Automatic Input Current Limit), which can actively recognize power adapter property, for example, to know the amount of input current, balance the adapter output current and the current required by terminal according to current amount, and actually it is the function of intelligent adapter. Suppose if your cell phone鈥檚 maximum acceptable charging current is 2A, the chip will automatically set the current to 2A at the beginning, but if it is in the current peak for long time, it will be dangerous, therefore, it will reduce a little under the current level to ensure security.
Moreover, Qualcomm have a technology for charging line, that is when charging line has short circuit, the chips can detect it out to adapt with charging current by INOV technology, so that the current shouldn鈥檛 be too large or unstable to destroy the cell phone terminal.

QC 3.0 will be popularized rapidly in 2016
At present stage, more than 50 items of terminals have used QC quick charging technology, there are still 100 items of accessories have passed authentication. Competition of accessory market is more furious than that of terminal market, including power adapter, power bank etc. Price war will be more obvious. It may predict that traditional 5V power adapter will be gradually eliminated and consumers will choose the power supply fitting with QC authentication which with the same price or cheaper.

Actually, most OEM and ODM supplier will be interested in QC technology, now for the battery life problem of smart phones, battery capacity should be bigger and bigger. If traditional power adapter with 5V/1A or 5V/2A is used, charging speed is relatively slow. By charging for 5 minutes, battery life can increase to 2 to 3 hours, this will be helpful to user experience. Manufacturers are willing to do for better user鈥檚 experience.

QC 2.0 dynamic takes longish time, since it needs to add new module in cell phones terminal chips and the charger also needs to add new control units, which require time and cost. QC 3.0 makes some modifications on the basis of 2.0, mainly it is fine tuning of the module, therefore, transition from QC2.0 to QC3.0 will be faster and it will be popularized more quickly.
